General Project Questions
The project team, Lincoln’s Tree Warden, and the SBC Site Subcommittee have spent time carefully considering which trees will be preserved in the project. There is an extensive plan for protecting those trees so that they remain healthy during and after construction.
The school campus has numerous streams and wetland areas. The green barriers prevent construction debris and contaminants from entering the water.
- Fall 2017: SMMA and the SBC gathered information from community members, parents, faculty, administrators, and students about what is required to meet current and future educational and community needs.
- June 2018: Town voted to determine 1) the shape of the school; 2) the educational value of the project; 3) the school’s location on the campus; 4) the number of floors it would have; 5) sustainability goals, and; 6) a total project budget. The Town voted to move forward with option “L3”, a 75% renovation/25% new construction solution that met both educational and sustainability goals. Total project budget is $93.9M.
- December 2018: Town voted to bond the project.
- July 2019: “Enabling Phase” began – site preparations for the temporary classrooms.
- September 2020: K-4 students will move into the temporary clssroms, 5-8 students will move to the Smith end of the building.
